Our Journey
Costumière began informally in 2012, when Zubaida Ahbab started creating outfits for herself.
After office, she would visit Priyangon a popular destination for people who sourced fabrics and had their own outfits made. She selected the materials, shared her design ideas with local artisans and arranged the embroidery and handwork herself. Gradually, friends and colleagues began asking her to create outfits for them as well.
She also opened a small social media page to share photographs of her clothes and fashion inspirations. There was no formal launch or business plan at the time. What began as a personal interest slowly developed into Costumière.
For the first seven or eight years, Zubaida kept Costumière’s prices and profit margins low because she genuinely enjoyed seeing people wear her creations.
Over time, she realised that for Costumière to grow, it would eventually need a physical home of its own. Although that showroom is still in progress, its foundation is gradually being built. Costumière’s premium positioning did not come from increasing prices alone. Better materials, improved craftsmanship, more original designs and greater attention to finishing and detail were gradually introduced.
Costumière’s style is rooted in contemporary Indo-Western fashion. Rather than covering an outfit in heavy embellishment, the label focuses on carefully considered details a statement sleeve, an unusual silhouette or a striking dupatta that transforms an otherwise minimal outfit.
In 2018, Costumière participated in its first international runway in Delhi. This was followed by the Dhaka Summer Runway in 2019. In 2022, just after the pandemic, Costumière took part in London Muslim Fashion Week, where traditional Jamdani was reimagined through trench coats, long dresses and contemporary silhouettes. The collection was also featured by several magazines and media platforms in Bangladesh.
As Costumière’s online presence grew, its collections began reaching Indian and other South Asian clients living around the world. Many discovered the label through Facebook, WhatsApp and personal recommendations, creating a connection that extended far beyond Bangladesh.
As Costumière evolved into a premium label, Zubaida introduced BossBegum to continue offering accessible everyday fashion. BossBegum provides regular and mid-priced outfits for women balancing their homes, careers, studies and everyday responsibilities.
The Maison Edit is the newest addition, gradually bringing together handpicked fashion, capes and drapes, lifestyle accessories and home décor.
From outfits created for personal wear to collections presented on international runways, Costumière has grown one step at a time. Today, the aim is to reach more clients in Bangladesh and across the world while continuing to develop the quality, craftsmanship and individual character of every collection.
This website brings Costumière, BossBegum and The Maison Edit together in one place, allowing both local and international clients to explore and shop all our collections more easily.
It marks another beginning for us, and we warmly welcome you to be part of the journey ahead.
